Community Grants Committee
The purpose of the Community Grants Committee is to identify and apply for grants appropriate for the Town of Ancram based on the town’s priorities.
The CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) Committee merged with the Grants and Funding Committee on December 17, 2009 and this created a stronger grants seeking committee that will focus on the next set of grants from either the NYS CDBG sources or other sources.
On March 3, 2009, Ancram residents with experience in public service, grant seeking, business, organization, and working with the Town’s needs formed a committee to seek financing for necessary improvements and new projects. Some projects and improvements may emerge from the Comprehensive Plan process, and others are ongoing needs of the Town that require funding not presently forthcoming.
The catalyst for the creation of the Grants & Funding Committee was the recent federal Economic Stimulus Package (through the passage of ARRA) that states will disperse to ready-to-go, ideally job-creating, local projects. In February 2009, the Governor of New York state appointed a stimulus point-person, and Columbia County requested that all towns submit their own lists of projects that would be forwarded to the State for potential stimulus grants.
In response, the Ancram Town Supervisor canvassed the Town’s committee chairs and Town Board members to come up with a list of the most obvious needs. The Grants & Funding Committee prioritized those needs, tracked the list as it traversed the process, and sought out additional sources of funding for necessary projects as they arose. Whether through grant applications or direct requests for funds from elected officials or government agencies, the committee identified potential funding for Ancram’s needs and where applicable pursued that money.
The Ancram Community Grants committee will meet monthly to discuss ongoing projects and identify any new projects that need funding.
Additional committee members are welcome. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact the Chairman Libby McKee by email
